“Designed by Marek Raczyński and Adam Kwapiński (a man behind such smash hits as Lords of Hellas and Nemesis), Hard City is a tactical adventure board game in a unique new retro setting, heavily inspired by B-class action movies and the atmosphere of the 1980s era! One of up to five players takes the role of Doctor Zero – an evil mastermind sending mutants to the streets and trying to take control of the metropolis, while others play as brave Hard City Police Officers fighting to stop him!
Hard City is a scenario-driven (in this case, Episode-driven, like a TV show!) asymmetrical miniature board game of adventure and tactical conflict on the mean, mutant-infested streets. What makes it stand out?
The cinematic awesomeness of the VHS era can be found in the story, art and style of the game, but also deep within the mechanisms of Hard City. To make your experience even more thrilling, we created a unique Cutscenes mechanism that the Officers may use while fighting mutants!
The game comes with a selection of cutscenes, visualized on tiles drawn each round and added to one another to form an actual film tape! They represent crucial moments in the plot of the current Episode. The events in each cutscene are triggered once per game after the Officers have met the scene’s requirements.
You may choose any scene that is further on the track than the current one, but remember to choose wisely. Once you go ahead, you can’t go back!
The Hard City board consists of three double-sided parts, making each Episode unique in terms of setup. Every part of the story takes place in a different city location and in the Grand Finale… the game box is used as a playable component, being the Zero Corp headquarters!
Hard City can be played as a “1 vs all” game, or in the co-op/solo mode. In “1 vs all”, one player takes the role of the evil mastermind Doctor Zero, while the other players are the Hard City Police Department Officers, fighting mutants and rescuing civilians.
Our game is scenario-based and divided into Episodes – like an old police television drama! Each Episode is perfectly playable (and replayable!) on its own, but together they form a complete story of Doctor Zero’s rise and fall and the Officer’s epic fight against him.”
