“Mirror Box Games launches new board game The King’s Guild on Kickstarter Tightly designed and easy to learn strategy game puts players in charge of managing a guild of heroes and leading them to glory in order to be crowned The King’s Guild.

Mirror Box Games launched a Kickstarter for The King’s Guild, a new board game that tasks players with building a legendary guild of heroes. The King’s Guild takes the fantasy trope of heroes and turns it on its head. Instead of going on quests yourself, you take the role of a powerful guild leader vying for supremacy in a competition to take the crown. Players supply their guild with resources, craft powerful items to send heroes on quests, recruit specialists to provide unique abilities to their guild, and expand their guild hall by building new rooms. Designer Matthew Austin was inspired to create The King’s Guild by playing tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons and videogames like The Legend of Zelda. He designed the mechanics of The King’s Guild theme first by focusing on the unique aspects of running an entire guild of heroes. Featured mechanics include resource management, unique player powers, tableau building, and set collection.

Several game reviewers have already previewed The King’s Guild, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Maurice Fitzgerald from Moe’s Gaming Table said “the game’s simplicity belies its deceptive but substantial depth” and Bearded Rogue called it “a great medium weight Euro”. Joe Babbitt from Pretty Sneaky Sis reviewed it as “a very clean and well executed design” and Geek Dad said “I found myself really enjoying the theme”.

The King’s Guild is for 2 to 5 players ages 14 and older and takes 60-90 minutes to play. It includes a large game board depicting the city of Greycastle and surrounding countryside; 5 guild tiles with unique starting powers; 5 player boards; 10 custom molded guild miniatures in 5 different colors; 40 wooden resources (white cloth, red leather, brown wood, blue metal, green gems, and purple magic); 35 room tiles (warehouses, gem workshops, magic arcaenums, libraries, chambers, and master rooms); 48 quest cards; 72 treasure cards; 36 specialist cards; 75 coin tokens (copper, silver, and gold); player reference cards; and a rulebook. The King’s Guild is expected to be available in Spring of 2018 at an expected retail price of $60.”
