“Saltlands” kurz vorgestellt!


A post­apocalyptic adventure game – 110% funded with more than 700 backers

About the game
The Earth has dried out and civilization with it. Some of the survivors have managed to eke out a living on the Saltlands: plains left behind by a once great ocean. Adapting to their environment they use land sails with wheels on these flats. But the Apocalypse is not done with the Saltlands, from the west a storm of raiders, a terrifying Horde on gas guzzling machines approaches in search of their lost God. Only those among the first to escape have a chance!

The players have heard of three mythical locations, where they can possibly make a living in peace away from the raiders. The players explore the Saltlands following a trail of rumors to find a path to these. The first group of players to reach an exit point with the necessary equipment, and clear out the raiders there wins. They escape, and leave the rest to their fate. However, there are no fixed teams; the first player, or players to achieve this goal wins. So players have to decide whom to work with and whom to stab in the back.



Saltlands uses a modular board of terrain tiles which are explored during the game. Players are pursued by six types of raiders each with it’s own set of custom plastic miniature!​Each character starts the journey with a landsail, a modest selection of weapons, gear and special abilities.

Some raiders are activated after each player’s round, and move towards the nearest player character attacking if they reach them. Although players can’t attack each other directly, the current player gets to choose the type of raider to be activated.



Saltlands is language­independent. The rules were initially available in English, Hungarian and German, and during the campaign, the Italian, French, Finnish, Japanese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese languages have already been unlocked thanks to community translators ­ with more to come. The rules will be available online and as a print­on­demand.

The team & motivation
Antler Games is a team of 3 enthusiastic engineers turned into game developers from Budapest Hungary: Greg (Gergely Kruppa) is the lead game designer. He is creative and precise at the same time, loves challenging gameplay, eye­catching artwork and quick prototyping. Andrew (András Drozdy) is the in­house board game geek and critic: a thorough, analytical person who never settles below anything but the best solution, whether it be playtesting or manufacturing. Greg (Gergely Gombos) is responsible for marketing and business matters – an outgoing type who loves delving into budget sheets and seeking sensible, honest answers to tough questions.
The three developers have known each other for more than 10 years, and they can’t wait to present Saltlands, their debut game, to a wider audience.
The three of us have been playing together since high school. Originally, Greg was developing a zombie­themed game as a hobby, but to be honest, this topic has been quite exhausted. We wanted a familiar, but still exciting setting we shifted to a post­apocalyptic desert environment. One of the things that makes this world special is that the locals use landsails to travel.
We started developing Saltlands last summer. We wanted a game where the teams aren’t pre­determined, and players change who they work with as the situation changes. In a survival game it is natural for everybody to think only about themselves, but still have to work together.
We have incorporated a company in the netherlands: Antler BV in order to easily do invoicing, manufacturing and fulfillment for Saltlands. We hope to design and publish more games in the near future if our campaign goes well.

Timeline
Since the closed alpha and beta states, Saltlands has been playtested by more than 100 people. We have also extensively tested the the English rulebook watching people learn the game from it without our help. The campaign launched on the 26th of April, and lasts until the 30th of May. As of now (06 May), it is 110% funded, with several Collectors’ Edition stretch goals unlocked and heading towards regular stretch goals. We have negotiated with game manufacturers and got quotes from several. We have been discussing manufacturing details with Panda Games for months and expect that we will be working with them because
we think they can deliver a high quality product on time.

Saltlands ships worldwide this year. We have contacted several fulfillment partners around the world in order to make the shipping USA, EU, Australia and Canada­friendly. This should provide affordable shipping with no undue stops at customs for our backers.

Kickstarter info and pledge levels
● Every backer ­ even 1 dollar backers ­ can get the Saltlands Graphic novel digitally!
● The base game costs about $49 in the US with free shipping. In the EU shipping is €7. There are also options for shipping worldwide. The game features 36 plastic raider vehicle miniatures.
● The expansion features a longer game mode, 6 more characters, the graphic novel printed in the rulebook, 6 plus miniatures and more.
● The Collector’s Edition, not only includes the expansion but features 42 metal miniatures and an exclusive box with a metal inlay.
